The NCTC 3000 project is a public engagement project being developed by PHE Culture Collections, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) and Pacific Bioscience. It will produce 3000 high quality reference genomes from type and reference strains within the National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC) and 500 viral reference genomes from the National Collection of Pathogenic Viruses (NCPV). All sequences are being made publically available to scientists globally, in real-time, and the sequences will support research on these important pathogens. We are also establishing an E-resource that will link sequencing data to all other available strain metadata (provenance, taxonomy, phenotypic characteristics and authentication data).
To date we have successfully sequenced over 1340 bacterial strains from 35 different bacterial families and nearly 60 pathogenic DNA viruses. Culture Collections welcomes input and if you would like to either accession strains for inclusion within the NCTC 3000 or NCPV 500 projects or to join the Scientific Steering Committee please contact us.
Further information and free access to the reference genomes can be found in the links below.
